British International School
At BISG, students progress to the Pearson Edexcel IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) programme, typically undertaken in Years 10 and 11, corresponding to Grades 9 and 10 in the Palestinian National System. Designed for students aged 14 to 16, the IGCSE is a globally recognized qualification that lays a strong foundation for further academic study.
The IGCSE curriculum offers a broad range of subjects, including core disciplines such as Mathematics, English Language, and the Sciences, alongside a variety of elective options like History, Geography, and Foreign Languages. This flexibility allows students to tailor their learning according to their interests, strengths, and future career aspirations.
Pearson Edexcel IGCSEs are carefully designed to equip students with essential transferable skills, including critical thinking, effective communication, and problem-solving, all embedded within the curriculum and assessment framework. The qualifications have been recently updated to align with the modern UK GCSE standards and are regulated by OFQUAL, ensuring international quality and recognition.
Following IGCSE, students advance to the Pearson Edexcel A-Level programme, typically in Years 12 and 13 (Grades 11 and 12). A-Levels provide a rigorous, in-depth study of selected subjects, preparing students for university-level education and competitive global opportunities. The programme emphasizes independent learning, analytical thinking, and subject mastery, enabling students to pursue higher education both locally and internationally with confidence.
By the end of the IGCSE and A-Level programmes, BISG students are academically prepared, globally aware, and equipped with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to succeed in higher education and beyond.
To equate the IGCSE with the Palestinian High School Certificate (Tawjihi) for the Scientific Stream, students must pass Mathematics at the Advanced Level (A-level) or Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS-level) and another science subject at the Advanced Level, or two Science subjects at AS-level, with Mathematics included among the six Ordinary Level subjects. For the Literary Stream, students must pass two literary subjects at the Advanced Level. The year listed for obtaining the High School Certificate in the equivalency document is the year in which all equivalency requirements are fulfilled. All graduating students must obtain the equivalency certificate from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and it is the student’s responsibility to register for examinations under the school’s supervision according to the designated plan.
