Activities & Clubs

At the British International School – Gaza, education extends far beyond textbooks and examinations. Our extracurricular programme is intentionally designed to complement both the British and American curricula, ensuring that students develop the leadership capacity, academic depth, creativity, and character required for success in competitive universities worldwide. We view activities and clubs as structured extensions of learning—spaces where theory becomes practice and where students discover their identity, voice, and strengths.
Academic excellence and university preparation form a central pillar of our activities programme. Through Advanced Placement (AP) and SAT enrichment sessions aligned with the standards of the College Board, students receive targeted SAT preparation in Mathematics and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, AP subject reinforcement workshops, timed practice examinations with data-driven performance analysis, and coaching for college application essays. These structured programmes prepare students not only for strong examination results but also for admission to leading international universities and scholarship opportunities. Alongside this, our College and Career Readiness Programme guides high school students through career exploration assessments, university research workshops, scholarship application guidance, personal statement and CV development, and interview preparation sessions. Our goal is not simply university acceptance, but confident, well-prepared transitions into adulthood.
Leadership and civic engagement are cultivated through meaningful student involvement. The Student Council fosters responsibility, initiative, and representation by organizing school-wide events, leading awareness campaigns, representing student voice in decision-making processes, and developing project management and communication skills. Through Model United Nations (MUN), students simulate international diplomacy by researching global issues, drafting position papers, engaging in formal debate, and practicing negotiation and resolution-building. This experience strengthens global awareness and prepares students for leadership in international contexts. The Debate and Public Speaking Club further enhances structured argumentation, evidence-based reasoning, confidence in public communication, and critical listening skills—competencies that directly support academic success in English, history, and the social sciences.
In the area of science, research, and innovation, students participate in STEM and Innovation Lab activities that include engineering challenges, coding foundations, applied mathematics problem-solving, and experimental design projects. These hands-on experiences cultivate analytical thinking aligned with international standards. Throughout the year, students also engage in scientific research and awareness projects connected to themes such as World Water Day, environmental sustainability, nutrition and health sciences, and neuroscience and memory workshops. These initiatives bridge the gap between scientific theory and real-life community issues.
Media, journalism, and communication are developed through student-led initiatives such as the BIS Journal, which highlights school achievements and events, features opinion pieces and reflections, and strengthens editorial and academic writing skills. Students learn responsibility in research, fact-checking, and publication ethics. The Media and Digital Content Team further builds 21st-century digital literacy by producing educational content, managing school storytelling on social media platforms, documenting events through photography, and conducting interviews and coverage.
Creative expression is nurtured through a wide range of arts and cultural activities. In the Creative Writing and Literature Club, students explore poetry, short stories, Arabic and English literary analysis, performance reading sessions, and publication opportunities. Drama and performance activities build stage confidence, character analysis skills, teamwork, and emotional intelligence. In the Art and Design Studio, students experiment with visual arts techniques, concept-based design, cultural heritage themes, and exhibition projects that celebrate creativity and identity.
Community, character, and wellbeing remain at the heart of our extracurricular vision. Through community service initiatives, students participate in local outreach campaigns, charity drives, awareness programmes, and service-learning projects that foster social responsibility and compassion. Faith, reflection, and values programmes—particularly during Ramadan and other meaningful occasions—encourage character education discussions, empathy-building activities, and ethical leadership dialogue. Health and wellness workshops support students in developing knowledge of nutrition, emotional regulation, study-life balance strategies, and mental resilience skills.
At BIS, extracurricular participation is not viewed as optional entertainment but as a structured developmental pillar of our educational model. Our activities are purposefully designed to enhance academic performance, strengthen university applications, build leadership portfolios, and develop confident, articulate, and ethical young adults. Through meaningful engagement, our students do not simply attend school—they grow, lead, and transform.
